How to use the Cyrillic database

The Cyrillic database makes use of unicode characters, which means that one must use a character- and fontset which is able to display unicode. First one must be sure that one has a font which is capable of displaying unicode characters. If such a font is not available on your system you may download and install the following font : Arialuni.ttf

Next, one must set this font to be the default font in your browser. In Netscape this is done by selecting Edit, Preferences in the menu. Then choose within Appearance the Fonts button. Then set the encoding type to Unicode; both the variable and fixed width fonts to Arial MS Unicode and select the Use my default fonts radiobutton. Press Ok and now you should be ready to display cyrillic characters.

Note that the cyrillic database is restricted in its possibilities. Popup-screens do not display cyrillic characters; mail does not provide a useful output, the file upload function does not function with unicode characters, etc. This has to do with the fact that the cyrillic characters make use of two-byte unicode characters, for which the application was not developed originally and with the fact that HTML does not support Cyrillic characters .
